Steps To Reaching Your Destiny – Changing yourself first -positively
by Rev. Rick L. Patterson, Th.D. President  Miami Christian University 9775 SW 87 Ave. Miami, FL 33176-2900  http://mcu.edu/papers/destiny.htm

” Today I want to share with you Steps To Reaching Your Destiny. This paper will give you a basic guideline that should give your direction and inspiration about reaching your destiny in Christ.

Step Number One: Choose A Big Dream! ( But first make sure, confirm with God and his Word,  it is God’s dream for you and not  your own or the devil’s)

Many times our lives are filled with planning and thinking about issues that will bring very little significance to our lives. Today I want to challenge you to choose a big dream, strive to reach your full potential and destiny in Christ.

Don’t become so caught up with the small issues of life that you can’t take advantage of the important dreams and opportunities God has for you! Make a decision this morning to take the time to think big! God is a big God!

“If you are hunting rabbits in tiger country, you must keep your eye peeled for tigers, but when you are hunting tigers you can ignore the rabbits.” H. Stern

There are plenty of tigers to go around, don’t be distracted by the rabbits.

Once you have set your faith on a big dream remember those who don’t take chances don’t make advances. Even a turtle doesn’t get ahead unless he sticks out his neck.

Step Number Two: Don’t Waste Tomorrow By Feeding On Your Yesterdays ( you cannot change the past but you can help to work on changing the future for self even .)

(Luke 9:62 NIV) Jesus replied, "No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God."

We live is a society of excuses and victims. Everyone is a victim today! I am a victim of my color, my genetics, my physical abuse, my sexual abuse, my finances, etc. It is time for us to stop blaming the past for our present failures and it is time to look forward with the faith and victory of Christ!

(2 Cor 5:17 KJV) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

The more you look backward, the less time you have to look forward! Always learn from the past but invest your time and energies in the future. Never, never, never waste another moment of your life grieving, worrying or regretting the past that Christ h as already forgiven you of and forgotten.

(Phil 3:13 KJV) Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

(Phil 3:14 KJV) I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

The thing that destroys more people is the continual looking at their past and not looking to their future. You can not go back and change the past but you can go forward and change your future.

Today is the day when I will shake off the shackles of the past and move forward in Christ!

Step Number Three: Always Tell The Truth

T.L. Osborn said, “Always tell the truth, and you never have to remember what you said.” The ninth commandment is, “Thou shalt not lie.” Each Christian who desires to reach their full destiny in God must learn to tell the truth. We must be men and wome n of integrity and honor.

You will never have success in life if you built your future on half-truths and lies!

(Prov 12:22 KJV) Lying lips are abomination to the LORD: but they that deal truly are his delight.

(Prov 19:9 KJV) A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.

Prov 19:9: Verse 9. Lying is a damning, destroying sin.

(Col 3:9 KJV) Lie not one to another, seeing that ye have put off the old man with his deeds;

(Col 3:10 KJV) And have put on the new man, which is renewed in knowledge after the image of him that created him:

Seven Results of Lying: ( besides the fact that you tend to delude, deceive yourself next, and you start to believe, act upon your own lies)

1) You will attract liars into your life and business dealings.
(Prov 17:4 KJV) A wicked doer giveth heed to false lips; and a liar giveth ear to a naughty tongue.
Prov 17:4: Verse 4. Flatterers, especially false teachers, are welcome to those that live in sin.

2) You will lack understanding.
(Psa 119:104 KJV) Through thy precepts I get understanding: therefore I hate every false way.

3) You will never enjoy permanent success.
(Prov 12:19 KJV) The lip of truth shall be established for ever: but a lying tongue is but for a moment.
Prov 12:19: Verse 19. If truth be spoken, it will hold good; whoever may be disobliged, still it will keep its ground.
(Prov 12:19 NIV) Truthful lips endure forever, but a lying tongue lasts only a moment.
(Prov 21:28 KJV) A false witness shall perish: but the man that heareth speaketh constantly.
Prov 21:28: Verse 28. The doom of a false witness is certain.

4) You will eventually end up in bondage and failure.
(Gal 2:4 KJV) And that because of false brethren unawares brought in, who came in privily to spy out our liberty which we have in Christ Jesus, that they might bring us into bondage:

5) You will eventually be punished.
(Prov 19:5 KJV) A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.
Prov 19:5: Verse 5. Those that tell lies in discourse, are in a fair way to be guilty of bearing false-witness.

6) You will become a fool.
(Prov 10:18 KJV) He that hideth hatred with lying lips, and he that uttereth a slander, is a fool.
Prov 10:18: Verse 18. He is especially a fool who thinks to hide anything from God; and malice is no better.

7) Your lies will always come back to haunt you.
(Psa 7:14 KJV) Behold, he travaileth with iniquity, and hath conceived mischief, and brought forth falsehood.
(Psa 7:15 KJV) He made a pit, and digged it, and is fallen into the ditch which he made.
(Psa 7:16 KJV) His mischief shall return upon his own head, and his violent dealing shall come down upon his own pate.

Determine today to speak the truth!

Step Number Four: Refuse To Walk in Fear and Worry! ( Even in the false submission to the oppressors, perverts, liars too)

Fear and worry are the interest you pay in advance for something you may never own. Worry is the triumph of fear over faith! Worry is the misuse of God’s creative imagination and powers in our lives. Worry literally means to strangle or to choke off. When we worry we are strangling the very hope and faith of our future and destiny.

Fundamentals For Overcoming Worry:

1) Live in day tight compartments.
2) When you face problems:
A: Ask yourself, “What is the worst thing that could possibly happen?”
B: Prepare to accept the worst.
C: Try to improve on the worst.
3) Remember worry literally destroys your physical well being and health.
4) Get all the facts before your allow yourself to worry or fear.
5) Weigh all the facts and make the best decision possible based upon knowledgeable facts.
6) Once you have made a prayerful decision act upon it.
7) Write out and answer the following questions:
A: What is the problem?
B: What are the causes of the problem?
C: What are the possible solutions?
D: What is the best solution?
When you worry and fear you stop the creative powers of God to show you the solutions.

(Psa 55:22 KJV) Cast thy burden upon the LORD, and he shall sustain thee: he shall never suffer the righteous to be moved.

When you worrying you are diminishing the greatness of God in your life! Don’t worry or fear take them to Christ for He cares for you.

Step Number Five: Choose Your Friends Wisely ( you are always known by the company you keep, so choose, get honest, decent good associates)

We need to be very careful about the kind of people we allow to become our friends. Our friends should be those who inspire us and bring out the best in you.

(Prov 27:19 TLB) A mirror reflects a man’s face, but what he is really like is shown by the kind of friends he chooses.

(Prov 13:20 NIV) He who walks with the wise grows wise, but a companion of fools suffers harm.

We become like the people we associate with! Choose your friends wisely! It is better to be alone than to be with the wrong friends.

(Eccl 4:9 TLB) Two can accomplish more than twice as much as one, for the results can be much better.

(Eccl 4:10 TLB) If one falls, the other pulls him up; but if a man falls when he is alone, he’s in trouble.

(Eccl 4:11 TLB) Also, on a cold night, two under the same blanket gain warmth from each other, but how can one be warm alone?

(Eccl 4:12 TLB) And one standing alone can be attacked and defeated, but two can stand back-to-back and conquer; three is even better, for a triple-braided cord is not easily broken.

Amateurs teach amateurs to be amateurs. If you want success you must decide to choose your friends wisely. You must associate with those who are going to positively influence your life and stand faithfully with you in the times of battle.

Take a moment and look at your friends are they helping you to serve Christ in a greater way or do they weaken your walk with Him?

Step Number Six: Be willing to Change! ( to make some movement now  as well..)

When you quit growing and changing in Christ you have made the decision to fail. This is true in every area of our lives. There are three things you should know about the future:

1) It is not going to be like the past.
2) It is not going to be exactly the way we think it’s going to be.
3) The rate of change will be faster than we can imagine.
(Isa 42:9 KJV) Behold, the former things are come to pass, and new things do I declare: before they spring forth I tell you of them.

(Isa 42:9 TLB) Everything I prophesied came true, and now I will prophesy again. I will tell you the future before it happens."

If you are truly seeking God and your destiny you will be able to know the future in advance and make the necessary adjustments to adapt to the changes. Always be prepared to change. If you are not changing you are not preparing for the future.

Step Number Seven: If You Know What God Can’t Do You Will Know What He Can Do! ( God he will help next do for you what you cannot do if it is in His Will

1) God cannot lie.
2) God cannot change.
3) God cannot recall our sins after we have asked for forgiveness.
4) God cannot be the author of confusion.
5) God cannot leave us or forsake us.
6) God cannot go back on His promises.
7) God cannot revoke His gifts.
8) God cannot be pleased without faith.
9) God cannot be defeated.
10) God cannot be too big for our problems.
11) God cannot be too little for our problems.
12) God cannot break His covenants.
13) God cannot revoke His calling in our lives.
14) God cannot do anything contrary to the scriptures.
15) God cannot give anything to a double-minded man.
16) God cannot be forced into an impossible situation.
17) God cannot ignore the praises of His people.
18) God cannot be our problem.
19) God cannot be late.
20) God cannot be weak.
21) God cannot be against us.
22) God cannot be limited or confined.

Step Number Eight: Know That God can  Use You Right Where You Are Today! ( Inspite of who and what you are..)

God always uses willing vessels. God will use you right where you are today. Many people are concerned that they are not qualified to be used by God. God will use anyone who is willing to follow him.

1) Matthew was a government employee a tax collector who became an apostle.
2) Gideon was a common laborer who became a valiant leaders of men.
3) Jacob was a deceiver who became Israel.
4) Deborah was a housewife who become a judge.
5) Moses was a stutterer who became a deliverer.
6) David was a shepherd boy who became a king.
7) Hoses was a marital failure who prophesied to save Israel.
8) Joseph was a prisoner who became a prime minister.
9) Peter was a fisherman who became the rock.
10) Isaiah was a man of unclean lips who prophesied the birth of Christ.
11) Paul was a persecutor who became the greatest missionary of all.
12) Mary was a unknown virgin who became the mother of Christ.

God will use you regardless of your present circumstances and he loves you enough to help in your present state. All God needs to use you is all of you! “
